So, this happened last night.
Today, there are more than a few sad Bruins.
Sympathy aside, as a coach, my first thoughts were empathic: what I thought about was what the two coaches thought before, during and after this play was run.
Mainly, I found myself contemplating the mind of the coach whose team was victimized by the three; but I also considered the coach who had the chutzpa to draw up such a play. Down 1, with twelve seconds on the clock. You only need two points to send your team into the next round. Miss, though, and go home.
And so . . . you tell your guys to chuck up a three? Unconventional.
And from thirty feet out? Incomprehensible!
And off a dribble hand-off? Inconceivable!
But, someone thought about it. A coach did. Whose game-winning gunner later explained: “(we wanted to) see if we could get their defense on their heels a little bit.”
